13 October 2006
13 October 2006
The discussion will give people an opportunity to add to the current debate on the Gaelic arts, and will take place on Wednesday 18th October in the Masonic Hall, Dunoon and will be chaired by PNE director Calum MacLean. The panel will include Bòrd na Gàidhlig’s Development Manager Donald Morrison, the Scottish Arts Council’s Head of Music Ian Smith, Glasgow Caledonian University’s Dr Douglas Chalmers, author and singer Dr Anne Lorne Gillies, and the former director of the Gaelic Media Service John Angus MacKay.
This week’s panel discussion will be a key element in forwarding the debate on the Gaelic arts and comes in the midst of a number of initiatives that PNE and GASD are undertaking to promote and research the Gaelic arts. These initiatives aim to add to an already vibrant area of Gaelic culture and to find ways of enriching the Gaelic arts from a linguistic and artistic perspective, as well as anchoring the arts in Gaelic communities. The debate will also serve as a platform for the launch of Dr Gillies’ report on Gaelic music.
The event is open to both the press and the public. Please contacat PNE for more details.
