Youth Music Initiative

The Youth Music Initiative has a Training and Continuing Professional Development fund aimed at supporting individual musicians, music facilitators and organisations providing music making activities for children and young people to undertake professional development activities that will extend and improve their professional practice and ability to deliver quality music making activities for children and young people.

Individual musicians can apply for up to £750. Organisations wishing to give training opportunities to change staffing infrastructure can apply for up to £5000.

The main target audience for the fund is;

· Freelance musicians leading projects that want to increase skills

· Local Authority staff who are not directly employed by Instrumental Music Services

· Organisations that wish to provide, organise or send their staff onto training or continuing professional development opportunities which lead to infrastructural development within the organisation,

Funding is available for the following;

· short-term or one-off training courses, conference fees, master-classes, mentoring and other experiences which will lead to improved professional skills

· study visits to undertake research of delivery methodology currently not widespread in Scotland

· the creation of specific and specialist training courses (organisations only)

Applications will be received up to 18th February 2008 and decisions made within 4 weeks of receiving your application. Full guidelines can be downloaded from the Scottish Arts Council website;
