On 23rd January Pròiseact nan Ealan (PnE) and Murray International Language Centre (MiLC) launched Seinn thu Fhèin – the brand new Gaelic karaoke DVD. The launch took place at Glasgow’s Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA), as part of the Ceol ‘s Craic Celtic Connections programme.
Gordon Murray, Director of MILC spoke at the launch about his idea for the DVD, alongside Malcolm Maclean, Director of PnE, who helped make the idea a reality. Young Gaelic singer Michelle Morrison, who sings on Seinn thu Fhèin, was there to demonstrate the karaoke element – however the audience of around 50 needed very little encouragement and were soon having a great time singing along themselves.
The audience were also thrilled by an additional performance from Na Rionnagan – a music group of young girls from the Glasgow Gaelic School. Na Rionnagan performed some outstanding music together as well as a couple of solos, before joining in on the karaoke.
Gordon Murray commented: “We were so pleased to have representatives from the education sector – and seeing how much these talented children enjoyed the DVD has made us even more keen to get the DVD to families, schools and young people. But the DVD is not just targeted at children – we think adult learners will find it both fun and useful as another way to become familiar with the language, that will contribute to any language learning programme”
The link with Gaelic learners is being further strengthened at a local launch on 23rd February in conjunction with Lews Castle College and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar. They will be holding an open Ulpan evening for tutors, pupils and anyone interested in finding out more about the Ulpan method of teaching. The second part of the evening will see a demonstration of the DVD by the Laxdale Gaelic Choir and a chance for everyone to give it a go in an open karaoke session / singalong.
Anyone interested in finding out more about Ulpan, or interested in giving the karaoke a go is urged to attend this event, which take place at Lews Castle College on 23rd February at 7pm.
The DVD will available at the local launch, and is also available in local shops and online. To try or buy the DVD online go to www.gaelic-arts-portal.com
