Pròiseact nan Ealan and Lasair are gearing up for the final stages of production Na Mo Chuid Aodaich which has its first showing in Port nan Long on Friday 17th February at 7.30 pm. There will be two showings in Kilmuir Village Hall - on Friday 24th February at 7.30 pm, and on Saturday 25th February at 2.15 pm.
Sìne Ghilleasbuig of Lasair said of their involvement in the project: "Lasair is thrilled to be working with Pròiseact nan Ealan and Crossroads Care in the delivery of this project. Skye has many histories and we were keen to focus on Ìochdar Thròndairnis and Port nan Long. It has been a joy meeting with people in both communities. The goodwill has been tremendous and many new friendships have been formed. It is the wee stories you learn when you are uplifting an old wedding dress which make the work so fascinating. This is the most exciting project we have had here for years. Na Mo Chuid Aodaich unites Skye's generations, bringing to the catwalk special pieces of clothing from our own lives. Our vintage clothing is explored through drama, music, song and story. A Gaelic event, there is an earpiece for those who are not fluent. Don't forget that there are three showings of this event, so there is no excuse to miss it. As you would expect, there will be a strùpag and home baking, along with raffle prizes and all proceeds will be directed to the sterling work of Crossroads Care in Skye and Lochalsh.” The award-winning show is truly a unique event for the Highlands and Islands. It features a historical drama and a catwalk show, exhibiting the amazing range of 20th century fashion that is to be found in the attics and forgotten back drawers of homes in the local communities. The story of the area and the people themselves is in amongst these threads and the evening is sure to be an eye-opening experience for all involved.
Drama Director Gilleasbuig Ferguson said of his experience so far: "It's a little daunting to be directing a drama for a show that has been so successful in its previous incarnations in Glasgow and Lewis, but I've been given really capable, experienced actors to work with - all with fantastic Gaelic - and a powerful script. The drama is shaping up to be a great prelude to the real stars of the show - the clothes and the stories behind them." The Port nan Long show is taking place in Minginish Community Hall at 7.30 pm on Friday 17th February. Entry to the show is free but there will be an opportunity to make a donation at the door to Crossroads Care.
There will be a different ticket system in place for the shows in Kilmuir. The Kilmuir show in north Skye is taking place in Kilmuir Hall, which is much smaller so there are two showings there – one on Friday night and the second on Saturday afternoon. To ensure a seat, bookings for Kilmuir should be made by telephoning Aros on 01 478 61 3750. Tickets for Kilmuir are priced at £10 per seat. If a child can sit on a parent’s knee, then there will be no charge for the child. All ticket proceeds go to Crossroads Care.
Anyone wishing to donate articles of clothing to the project for the Port nan Long production should bring them to Minginish community hall from Friday 10th February. Pròiseact nan Ealan staff will be available at the hall each day from Friday 10th to Friday the 17th of February, excluding Sundays, to take any items of clothing and to fit clothing to models.
