The Legacy

The St Kilda Opera has generated several hours of high quality audiovisual material that is the intellectual property of the project. This includes professional recordings of eight St Kilda songs, time-lapse film, the cliff-dancers, the drama filmed on location on St Kilda and the performances in theatres across Europe. We have also researched and sourced almost all of the pre-existing film material about St Kilda including archive film, arial film, underwater film, nature film, documentary and feature film.

We have used the high profile of the Opera and of the St Kilda archive to stimulate national and local government interest in the creation of a new form of permanent St Kilda Visitor Centre. The concept proposes that these hours of audiovisual material be used to create the content for a unique, inter-active, screen-based, visitor experience.

Meetings are ongoing with the Local Islands Authority and Local Enterprise Company, both of whom are exploring driving the Legacy forward in conjunction with PNE based on what has been achieved to date. We remain confident that the legacy will go ahead as planned and we will continue to update this page with new information.

Homecoming Scotland 2009

We are currently developing a project based on the 2007 St Kilda Opera as part of the Homecoming Scotland event. As part of this we wish to develop a St Kilda Day on 29th August, which will coincide with the beginning of the tour. Watch this space for more info!
