The Event

June 22nd and 23rd, 2007

The event featured live music-theatre with actors, musicians, dancers, choirs and Gaelic singers in each venue. The music featured both contemporary and traditional elements as well as the natural St Kildan soundscape of sea, wind and birds. The live theatrical performance was paralleled by, and inter-cut with, large-screen audio visual projection of location, archive and other film material shot on St Kilda in August 2006. The pre-filmed material included the Parisien vertical dance company, Retouramont, who performed an ariel ballet suspended from the cliffs on which the St Kildans worked for centuries. The film projection had also enable broadband satellite linkage with St Kilda where an element of the performance beamed live from Europe’s outer margins back into it’s continental centre.
