The Vision
The island at the end of the world, as it was to many Europeans, has a rich and unique culture of its own. The birdmen of St Kilda would scratch a living from this isolated archipelago, it was a harsh and bleak existence. Using modern technology the whole of Europe was able to witness the dramatic unfolding of this unique musical event.
St Kilda was the epicentre of a groundbreaking performance bringing together in a single work and around the same story artists, performers and audiences from 5 European countries. This was facilitated by the technologies of sharing information. The development and production of this project entails not only exchanges and fusions among the artistic cultures of the countries concerned (Scotland, France, Belgium, Austria, Germany) but also the movement of artists, technicians and technological designers. It required the sharing of their respective knowledge and professional experience.
Beyond the creation of a lyrical work, we strongly hoped to create a prototype of inter-European artistic cooperation, European network of artistic interest, in the form of a creative laboratory whose aim was to develop and promote new playwriting and use of technological tools highlighting artistically, the importance of a collective European memory.
