Ceilidh at the Beach
A winning format
The Gaelic Arts Agency took the lead in establishing what has now become and annual community music event, Ceol na Mara. Located at the ideally situated Bayble Beach on the Point Penninsula of Lewis this celebration of music has gained popularity each year.
Using local artists, performances throughout the evening and early morning have attracted large audiences from around Lewis and further afield. In recent years the opening of the programme has seen childrens events being incorporated, such as storytelling. The venue has been divided into modern and traditional musical areas giving the audience a choice of listening at any one time.
In 2004 the event was organised by the Point Community Asociation for the first time, with help and support from the Gaelic Arts Agency. Ceol na Mara is now well established and the Community Association will be able to build on the firm foundation established by the Gaelic Arts Agency.
The successful format has now been transposed to other areas of Lewis such as Ceol na Loch
