Gaelic Drama

The Gaelic Arts Agency has developed a number of dram threads. An annual residential summer school is held at Lionacleit School on Benbecula. This is open to students over 16 and exposes them to the rich variety of Gaelic Drama.

A number of successful plays and tours have been commissioned. These include

  • The Apple Tree, Alasdair MacDonald’s award winning play contrasting the West Coast of Scotland with the North Sea Oil Industry in a touring play and TV documentary.

  • Taighean Na Mara was George Gunn’s 1996 production followed charismatic preacher Norman Macleod from Sutherland to Canada and New Zealand in this touring play.

  • Reiteach was John Murray’s 1995 touring play that looked at modern Gaeldom in the light of romanticism.
